If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: and whosoever will lose his life for my sake shall find it. (Matthew 16:24-25)((KJV)
This is an invitation that reflects the meaning of real disciple of Christ, and HE is speaking these words to those who have already been following Him: - to his discples.
To truly be a Christian involves,
- denying of self by parting ways from sinful & worldly nature, deny the pleasure the world promises, and stop doing things to make ourselves “righteous”!
- taking up our cross : to bear with patience every affliction, evil, persecution for which we are called for
- and following Christ with self-denial!
Jesus says if we desire to keep ourselves from troubles, persecution and chooses ways other than Christ to get favours, worldly titles, honour and blessings fro the world,we will loose it! On the judgment day, such will be sent to hell. But if someone is willing to sacrifice the pleasures of life and lay down his life for Christ, and to be ed by the truth, he shall enjoy the eternal life with Christ, which is free from pain, afflictions, where there joy and happiness is endless!
